YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
This one delivers much MORE than the cover led me to expect. It begins with a really humorous historical look at women and physical activity.

The other thing I really like about this book is its strong message that physical activity really can be for everyone. Whether you're an elite athlete or someone who has difficulty making it around the block, this book encourages you to meet yourself where you are and start claiming the truly good feelings and health benefits that come from moving your body.

Bodywork: 1978-1985
Published in Hardcover by Edition Stemmle (February, 1995)
Authors: Lynn Davis and Peter Weiermair
Average review score:

The mundane and the brilliant
This book has many photographs of female contortionists bent over in poses which appear not only contrived but also highly improbable. Then on page 73 we find a small masterpiece which redeems the entire book. Lynn Davis' eight year old son stands before a wall, eyes closed and head tilted slightly to one side as he savors the warmth of the Californa sun bathing every part of his body. Stunningly beautiful yet androgynous we are forced to resort to the original method to determine the sex of this child. Although he is fully exposed he does not appear vulnerable. Everything about his stance indicates that he is rejoicing in the feel of sun light and fresh air on his skin. This, I think, is the real charm of the photograph. We the viewers feel privileged to study the boy's body without feeling that we are exploiting him. He is enjoying a moment of freedom and innocence. The boy is enjoying his nudity and we are sharing his delight. It's magic pure magic.

Boris and the Monsters
This book was a delightful story of a boy battling his bedtime monsters. It is a story that can put children at ease with bedtime fears. It addresses nighttime fears from a child's level of understanding. I know it worked wonders at bedtime at our house! Now, if they would just bring it back from "out of print"

Bounce Back! The New Play Ethic at Work
Published in Hardcover by Morningstar Communications LLC (01 July, 2002)
Author: Lynn Grasberg
Average review score:

Send in the Clowns
Lynn Grasberg's "Bounce Back: The New Play Ethic at Work" makes a serious case for seeking out retraining as a corporate clown. Lynn, who has been clowning at the corporate level for years, has finally put her experiences, theories, and techniques on paper to the benefit of all concerned.

The book's premise is simple: Today's corporate climate of massive downsizing, unthinkable bankruptcies, and unabashed greed has led to an epidemic of worry, our society's most prevalent advanced pathological coping skill. This worry, of course, does nothing but make us less effective when we need to be more effective. Lynn's answer? A clown's pocket full of techniques proven over years of teaching play as a management tool.

"Bounce Back" is laid out in clearly defined sections stating the problem, the solution, the techniques and their application. Nicely executed graphics give the book visual interest and, at the same time, act as organizational elements. This book is fun to read.

I liked "Bounce Back!: The New Play Ethic at Work." I recommend it to anyone who finds worry interferring with life on the job or at home. It has value both as a management tool and as a vehicle for personal growth. The book can become a habit. You may find yourself bouncing back to it every time worry sneaks into your life.

Boxwood handbook : a practical guide to knowing and growing boxwood
Published in Unknown Binding by American Boxwood Society ()
Author: Lynn R. Batdorf
Average review score:

Readable, Accurate and Comprehensive with Beautiful Pictures
This 99 page color book is an absolutely wonderful handbook which is packed with very readable and accurate data-based information on all aspects of growing and using boxwoods. Various chapters cover: 1) the use of boxwoods in landscapes - lots of beautiful pictures, 2) listings of various types of boxwoods with accompanying color pictures for different temperature zones, 3)the culture of boxwoods - growing, propagation, transplanting, soil conditions, weather and climate, fertilizing, pruning, 4) boxwood pests and diseases and 5) even a history of boxwood and it use as a wood in various parts of the world. It is a true reference book but unlike many references, it is easy to read and understand. It carries, however, the necessary detail for those who have very specific questions. Batdorf is Curator of Buxus (boxwoods), Perennial and Aquatic Plants at the U. S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. He definitely knows what he is talking about. If you have boxwoods and questions about them, this is THE book for you. Whether from the perspective of a commercial grower or a backyard garden enthusiast, this handbook covers your questions. It is also the only current book on the topic with up to date research findings. One might ask, why I am so enthusiastic about the book. As a commercial grower of boxwoods, I have used it extensively and found it very beneficial. I am also an Officer of the American Boxwood Society located at Box 85 Boyce, VA 22620 and have witnessed the development of Lynn's book. Knowing him, gives me an added perspective, since I know the effort put into the book to make it complete and accurate. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any person interested in any aspect of Boxwood. Brainstorming : The Serper Method of Brain Recovery, Regrowth, and Vitality
Published in Paperback by Brain Enhancement Services, Inc. (13 January, 2000)
Authors: Lynn Lazarus Serper and Dale Koppel
Average review score:

Brainstorming:From Brain Trauma to Recovery
Ms.L. Lazarus Serper has published a winner. Like Lazarus of the New Testement, she was entombed in her brain by a massive insult. After three long months she opened her eyes and believed she had the power to heal herself. And she did. This remarkable book outlines the journey the truely willful may take to get their brains back...and subsequently their lives.

Brainstorming describes in detail the combination of exercises and prioritizing Ms. Serper practiced using her extensive knowledge of the brain's developmental process to retrain it...and take her life back. Not only did she take her brain back to kindergarden and work forward, she finished the Scientific Doctorate in Human Cognitive Functioning that was in progress when her brain suffered a ruptured brain anuerysm followed by a massive stroke with aphasia(inability to express herself) and right body weakness. She used what she knew of how the brain develops and restores itself to reprogram it with activities she had used in the classroom to assist students with mild to moderate brain dysfunction in re-gaining control by re-patterning the brain's dysfunction to that of function. Author, suvivor, teacher and now doctor Serper explains and outlines the path to brain recovery as real and based upon the Darwinian Principle...that brains, thus their cells can grow with steadfast stiving to survive.

So take your brain to the brainstorming gymnasium and re-pattern information intake, storage, and recall. Who you were may be who you can become. Ms. Serper shows us gives us hope, a scientificly proven plan, and a goal...taking our lives back. I found this book inspirational and it should be on the shelf of every resource library in every hospital in America.

A grateful Reader, RMD

Brand Driven: The Route to Integrated Branding Through Great Leadership
Published in Hardcover by Kogan Page Ltd (01 April, 2003)
Authors: F. Joseph Lepla, Lynn M. Parker, and Susan V. Davis
Average review score:

Points to what you need to know
I recommend this book to anyone who is implementing a new brand strategy, or problem-solving the strategy they now have. It reminded me of what is behind successful branding efforts: a leader who makes the brand come alive. It is something I thought I knew, but didn't really "get" until I read the book. It is written in a clear, intelligent voice - not too cutesy, and very straightforward. There are a number examples of why branding did or did not work for specific companies, and how leadership impacted their success or failure. I found it extremely helpful, as it broadened my thoughts about how to use branding to its fullest extent in my own firm.
